PCR’s Newsletter – May: Week 4

Missed our newsletters of May? Don’t fret, we’ve got an over-sized newsletter this week to make up for our absence! Now that apologies are out of the way, let’s jump right into the latest major film developments of the week (May 20th – May 24th).


Christopher Nolan’s “Event” Film Rounds Out Cast and Reveals Title

Christopher Nolan’s “event” film has rounded out it’s cast, with Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, Kenneth Branagh, and Clémence Poésy stepping onboard. They join an already announced cast comprised of John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki & Léa Seydoux. Talk about a stellar lineup!

Along with the announcement of the new additions to the cast, it has also been revealed that the film is officially titled Tenet. Google’s definition of the word tenet is: A principle or belief, especially one of the main principles of a religion or philosophy. The title reveal paired with Variety‘s report that the film “is an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage”, certainly paints an interesting picture.


Casting News: Dakota Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross to Lead Covers

Dakota Johnson and Golden Globe winner Tracee Ellis Ross have both signed on to lead new comedy Covers, from director Nisha Ganatra whose latest feature Late Night made a big impression at Sundance earlier this year. The film is set among the talent, fame and fast-paced world of Hollywood’s music scene.


Trailer: Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Earlier this week Sony Pictures released a brand new look at Quentin Tarantino’s 9th film to coincide with it’s worldwide debut at the Cannes Film Festival. Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood is receiving glowing reviews from critics and Cannes attendees, with the general consensus being extremely positive.

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Timothy Olyphant, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, James Marsden, Kurt Russell and many more. The film arrives in theaters July 26.


John Wick 4 Hitting Theaters in 2021

After kicking off it’s global assault last week, and setting a new opening weekend record for the franchise, it’s safe to say that Lionsgate are extremely eager in continuing the John Wick franchise. With a film spin-off in the works, a television spin-off centered around The Continental given the go ahead at STARZ, Lionsgate have also greenlit a direct sequel to John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum! The currently untitled fourth John Wick film is eyeing a release date of May 21, 2021, with Keanu Reeves confirmed to return as the titular lead.

The Invisible Man Creeping into Theaters Next Year

Universal Pictures have secured a release date of March 13, 2020, for the upcoming horror-thriller remake of The Invisible Man. The film which stars Elisabeth Moss and Storm Reid, is being directed, written, and executive produced by Leigh Whannell (Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).


André Øvredal to Direct Adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk

The Autopsy of Jane Doe director André Øvredal is set to helm New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King’s dystopian-horror “The Long Walk”. The film will follow closely to the plot of the book in which 100 teenage boys embark on a grueling annual competition known as The Long Walk, with the grand prize being anything the winner wants.

Øvredal’s next feature is the Guillermo Del Toro-backed horror film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, which comes out in theaters August 9, 2019.


Trailer: Terminator: Dark Fate

Another Terminator film is on the horizon, and we have a poster AND trailer for your eyes to feast on (don’t say we never spoil our readers). Terminator: Dark Fate sees the return of James Cameron in the role of producer, with Tim Miller (Deadpool) in the director’s seat. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Behind-the-Scenes

Last Night in Soho Starts Shooting

According to Edgar Wright’s Twitter page, his latest film Last Night in Soho has officially begun shooting. The writer-director has stated that the film is a psychological horror movie set in London starring a female character in the lead role. The cast (so far) includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Matt Smith, and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie!
